Neighborhood Update

Dear Neighbors,

Over the past several months a group of fellow neighbors have been working hard to create a neighborhood association to give our residents a forum to discuss common concerns. We have made significant progress in this endeavor and would like to update you on the status of these efforts.

Oct 2022 First neighborhood meeting called by Mike Austin to discuss ideas for forming an association. Group of interested neighbors volunteer and form what would become the “Organizing Committee”. Neighborhood blog started to communicate with and update neighbors.
Dec/Jan – multiple committee meetings held to discuss ideas of how to structure an association.
Feb – Neighborhood meeting held to present and discuss ideas for structuring association. Updates on Greenville Development Code and Swamp Rabbit Trail discussed
March – Org Committee arranged a presentation and discussion of Greenville Development Code by City planning staff for the neighborhood on March 6th. Proposed zoning changes in neighborhood were discussed in detail. Subsequently, committee members pursued concerns raised by neighbors regarding industrial zoning along Sycamore Dr and Boland Ave. After numerous communications by our committee with planning department staff and City Council member Wil Brasington, the proposed industrial zoning of two lots were changed to a residential designation on the revised March 15th draft of the development code.

April – Neighborhood meeting and committee meetings held. Organizing Committee voted to adopt a set of Rules of Organization(more info below) and elect Mike Austin as interim “Organizer”. Voting for association name to be held via neighborhood blog. Announcement of first neighborhood “Block Party”! (see below:)

Rules of Organization and Discussion
After neighborhood feedback and much consideration and discussion, the organizing committee has adopted our “Rules of Organization and Communication”. These will serve as the association’s guide for meeting and communicating and can be found on the neighborhood blog: https://eastlynnena.files.wordpress.com/2023/04/na_rulesoforg_04122023.pdf

The organizing committee has also, for continuity during these initial stages, voted to place Mike Austin as the initial association “Organizer”. Mike will guide and work alongside the organizing committee on all association efforts. Anyone interested in volunteering to serve on the organizing committee should contact Mike or one of the committee members.

Association name
Voting is now open for an association name. To vote, please visit the poll (https://forms.gle/5qr94mwt5jdRFcwc6) and select your choice from the names that have been submitted. One vote per person please. Voting will remain open until May 29th.
